My pastor said several times, "Some people are so open minded, their brains fall out." :-)

ROFL Rudy, I can relate. I've had to fight to keep mine a number of times...
I think our perception of reality (and thus what we believe to be reality) is slightly altered with each new thing that we learn... When exploring all options, it is easy to get lost in the realm of possibilities, making reality a tough subject for me. Perhaps physical pain would be worse, but I felt like I traveled through hell exploring reality. I still scratch the surface... But when the time is right, I will brave the unknown again! I know I risk everything... but if what we know to be truth is truly not so, then shouldn't we know? Whatever I may find out, it will never change what I loved.
Sometimes open mindedness is a result of seeking truth and other times it a the result of not caring. When it is not caring, I think that's when peoples brains have fallen out. To have true open mindedness, one must be open hearted as well though... but sometimes open mindedness and open heartedness is the result of hopelessness... Once found though, I think open heartedness and open mindedness give new reason for hope and that hope gives new reason to remain open. Sometimes the doors close though. When I am tired, I close mine. I think mine have been closed a lot lately, which was probably the pretext for this "Openmindedness" post.

That's why I think it's tougher to be an atheist. It's so difficult to believe in nothing.
Much easier to believe in something. One central truth that defines and gives purpose.
